What it does

A practice-room reference that actually listens

Everything a working player reaches for, without hunting through tabs on the internet.

Scales for every key

Every scale and mode, in every key, mapped across the full neck or narrowed down to one playable position, labeled by note name or by scale degree.

Fretboard and keyboard

See the same scale or chord mapped on a guitar fretboard — alternate tunings included — or laid out on a piano keyboard, whichever you check your work on.

Tuner

A clean, accurate chromatic tuner that listens live and tracks pitch in real time as you tune each string.

Chord Finder

Strum a chord into the microphone and Fret & Key names it back to you — no typing, no searching.

Key Finder

Play a few notes or a riff and it listens and works out what key you're in — including the honest major/minor pair when the notes alone can't tell them apart.

Metronome

Four time signatures, tap tempo, and a beat indicator that keeps running even while you're looking at something else in the app.

Questions

Frequently asked

Does it need an internet connection?

No. Every scale, chord, tuner reading, and key/chord detection runs entirely on your device. There's no account and no network connection required to use the app.

What does Fret & Key do with my microphone?

The tuner, chord detector, and key finder listen live to detect pitch. That audio is processed in real time on your device and is never recorded, saved, or sent anywhere. See the Privacy Policy for the full details.

Is the Full Unlock a subscription?

No. It's a single $7.99 purchase that unlocks everything permanently. There are no subscriptions anywhere in this app.

I bought the unlock — how do I get it back on a new device?

Use Restore Purchases from the app's Settings screen. It's tied to your Apple ID, not a specific device.

Which instruments does it support?

Piano, guitar, ukulele, banjo, and mandolin. The fretted instruments — guitar, ukulele, banjo, and mandolin — also support alternate tunings and capo position.
